Security and Privacy Statement
Security Policy
-
Mexico Insurance Online has created a state-of-the-art, real-time
transaction system, that uses industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
encryption, as well as private links to international banking networks, to
ensure your information is quickly and securely authorized and processed.
-
Your credit card information is protected in two ways. First of all, as a
result of the SSL-based encryption, your card number is ALWAYS secure during
transmission. A visual means of confirming this is for you to watch the small
lock and key icon in your browser. While on any page where financial
information is to be entered, this icon will change to a locked padlock state,
denoting a secure page. This security measure is privately audited by an
independent third-party, Veri-Sign (one the Internet's oldest and most trusted
security auditors), whose icon you can click on from any secured page to
confirm its secure status.
-
Secondly, our private links to banking networks ensure that your sensitive
information is ALWAYS secure once we have received it. All the information
travelling on our banking network is guaranteed 100% secure - in fact, it's
more heavily-encrypted than your private telephone conversations!
-
Credit Card Transactions: Credit card transactions are processed by
Authorize.net which has confidentiality of transactions covered by their
privacy policy. A professional payment authorization service was chosen for
added security. Authorize.net offers secure encrypted credit card transactions
for thousands of companies and has security measures in place that cannot be
duplicated by smaller sites. Information collected during transactions is
maintained in their database for accounting and billing purposes.
-
Mexico Insurance Online actively works with international banking
institutions and law enforcement to discover and prosecute cases of fraudulent
credit card use. All connections to, and transactions within Mexico Insurance
Online are logged and regularly audited. WE USE ALL MEANS AVAILABLE TO US TO
PURSUE CRIMINAL PROSECUTION AGAINST PERSONS ATTEMPTING FRAUD OR UNAUTHORIZED
ACCESS TO OUR SYSTEMS, IN ALL ICPO/INTERPOL JURISDICTIONS.
Private Information Policy
-
To ensure the integrity of our registration systems, and reduce the
incidence of fraud (and its associated costs), we are forced to accept orders
only from clients who use a valid e-mail address as supplied by an Internet
Service Provider.
-
Mexico Insurance Online does not attempt to collect personal information
from children. If children do send personal information to Mexico Insurance
Online, such as writing to Santa, sending e-mail, etc., the information is
deleted. Note that Mexico Insurance Online cannot always determine that a user
is a child. Aggregate reports for web site visitors are generated. These
reports do not contain any personally identifiable information.
-
When visiting any Internet site your unique address called an "IP address"
is recorded. Mexico Insurance Online does not release any information about
the collection of this address to any third party except under court order.
Mexico Insurance Online archives the log files in order to create aggregate
statistical reports, detect errors at the web site, and for security reasons.
The log files are eventually deleted.
-
IP reports for advertisement clicks are shared with the advertiser.
However, they usually have this information already since it is captured by
their server when you click an ad. This is done to verify billing for the ads.
No additional information associated with any specific user is provided to the
advertisers.
-
No Images, files, or cookies are downloaded from third party servers. This
means no banner networks, 'hidden' images of size 1x1 pixel, etc. More than
50% of affiliate and advertising requests are rejected by Mexico Insurance
Online because of this requirement.
-
'Redirects' or the logging of clicks for external links is only done for
advertisements. This is indicated by link to a URL such as '/redirect.asp?url=
...' The external URL is clearly marked in the "url=" portion. This is done to
create the advertising reports described above in order to bill the
advertiser.
-
Favicon.ico requests. Some browsers initiate a favicon.ico request is made
to a web site when a user adds a site to their "Favorites" list. The ".ico"
stands for "icon." It is a small 16x16 icon that replaces the standard icon
used for a web page. Favicon.ico requests are not tracked.
-
Mexico Insurance Online may disclose any of the information that we
receive to companies that perform marketing services on our our behalf or to
other insurers with which we have joint marketing agreements.
Tips for when reviewing privacy policies on other web sites
-
Is there a privacy policy at all? Is it easy to find? Do they have a
contact e-mail address and are questions actually answered?
-
Does the site have a link to its privacy policy where it collects personal
information?
-
Can you change your mind and opt-out later?
-
Is the information clear or is it confusing and full of legal mumbo jumbo?
-
Do sites use 'opt-in' or 'opt-out' methods for the release of personal
information? Opt-in means the user makes a choice when the information is
released. Opt-out means the information is automatically released unless the
user does something to stop it. Are information release choices automatically
default to releasing the information?
-
Does the site have complicated methods to opt-out and/or do they have
several places that opt-out is required in an effort to 'wear you down'?
-
Does the site say if they use Internet cookies? If so, do they explain how
they are used?
-
Does the site explain what is done with their log files and IP Addresses
it collects? [see The IP Address: Your Internet Identity for more
information.]
-
Does the site allow downloads and/or Internet cookies from third party web
sites? (This is often done with banner ad networks).
-
Does the site attempt to collect personal information from children or
adults? Does the site claim rights to this information once it is submitted?
-
Does the site say if they release information to others?
-
Do sites ask for personal information (such as Mother's maiden name or a
portion of the social security number) claiming they need this to set a
password?
-
If information is released can you stop them from disseminating the
information at a later date? Do they provide specific instructions on how to
do this?
